Eric Idle sang "life will get you in the end". This has a ring of fatality to it, specially because you'd think that death is what ends up getting you.
what you probably don't realise is that this was another way of describing Murphy's law, which for me makes much more sense with the corollary written by Brealey & Myers: "at the worst possible time".
